RAG: how AI answers from your documents
RAG is a way to give the model the knowledge it needs at the moment of the question, without retraining it.
Every day I write in my Telegram channel about how AI is changing software development: techniques for working with AI, breakdowns, “build it in an evening” ideas and lessons from projects. All the channel’s posts are here. The channel is in Russian; posts not yet translated are marked “Russian only”.

AI really does help a beginner write things that used to be out of reach. But working code isn’t yet a solution to the problem.

I used to sit down and write the code myself, keeping dozens of “obvious” things in my head: where the contract must not change, what must stay idempotent, which errors must not be swallowed.

When people say new models are slowed down by safety concerns, they usually imagine a “dangerous intelligence”. In practice the risk is often more mundane: an agent deleted the wrong file, sent the wrong email or…

When the assistant has written a function, don’t jump straight to the next task. Open a new conversation or set up a separate role: now it’s not the author but a picky reviewer.

AI usually returns text: useful, but in a different shape every time. That’s a problem for automation: you can’t reliably pass such an answer to a CRM, a spreadsheet or the next step of a workflow.
